A Daily Plan for Building Wealth

by Scott on August 17, 2009

Do you have a daily plan for building wealth?  A set of activities if repeated often enough would create the lifestyle and life that you desire?
Sounds like the beginning of an infomercial doesn’t it?  Well I am not going to try to see you anything today.  Just to get you to think in a different fashion.  When we go through life we all are gifted with the same amount of time every day.  So why do some people seem to get more done with that same time than others?

Three myths on why others are more successful

1) The Myth of More Resources – This one tops the discussion list every time on why other people are more successful.  They point to family money, or infrastructure, or a huge company, etc.  Well guess what.  The people who have bootstrapped themselves to success didn’t have any of those.  Too many wealthy people exist who have started with far less than you or I, have reached their goals.  So don’t think you have to have massive resources to achieve success.  Massive resources can in fact be a limiting factor.  A large company is not a nimble one.  The larger it grows the less able it is to take advantage of opportunities that require quickness and agility.  Learn to maximize your advantages when you are small and leverage your way to being the size you want to be.

2) The Myth of Who They Knew – Ahh deadly #2 on the list.  They succeeded because off friends, connections from school, work, etc.  I don’t know those people so can’t be successful.  Do you think they were born knowing those people?  I can imagine them popping out at birth with a list of influential people already assigned to them.  So if connections are what is stopping you from being a success, go get some.  Make a list of the top 50 people in your industry or field that you would like to meet.  Find some information on them, where they are going to be speaking, recent articles they have written, interviews they have given, etc.  Get an address or phone number.  Write them a letter or give them a call.  Don’t give up after one letter.  I won’t go into the details on how to accomplish this, but remember we all make relationships every day.  Don’t let that stop you.  Go build them now.

3) The Myth of Mindset – Actually this isn’t a myth.  Mindset is the single largest reason for people to fail.  Our mindset limits us in a way that many people cannot understand.  The only thing Roger Bannister

changed when he broke the four minute was the mindset that it was impossible.  For many years doctors had said it was impossible to run that fast.  That it would kill someone who did it.  When the impossible becomes possible, barriers are removed and suddenly we can see ourselves accomplishing far more.

If you currently run a business doing $100,000 a year, you don’t have the systems or mindset in place to do $1,000,000.  I once heard it said you cannot solve today’s problems with the same thinking that created them.

Well you cannot increase your business 10X with the same mindset you have today.  Studying your mindset and the systems you have in place will give you a good idea on where you need to change to be able to hit that next level.

Challenge yourself to identify the areas in your business that would break down if it jumped 10X.   How would you have to change?  Your business?

Once you lay out the roadblocks you need a daily plan of attack to slowly break them down.  To build your systems and resources to the point where you can do $1,000,000 a year.  Or $10,000,000.

Develop a daily plan for meeting those goals.  Actions that if repeated consistently will lead to an increase in wealth.  Focus on ones you do well and improve then 1% each month.  Areas you do poorly on, redesign them to be easier. The Japanese call this Kaizen.  Small incremental improvement that over time add up to huge gains.

PS – Take 30 minutes and brainstorm the systems in your business that prevent you from being successful.  If you can’t identify them, look into finding a good business coach for help.  Post a comment below if you want my help :)   I am always glad to help.

Good article. I think mindset is a big one! It's one of the hardest things to change. When are you going to be in SC again?
  • Yea even the word itself - mindSET implies something set in stone that is tough to change. That is why the ones who can control their mindset can accomplish anything. Our belief systems limit us in most ways. Once you belief you can do something it becomes much easier to accomplish.

Not sure when I will be back. You wanna buy me mexican when I do? :)
