As someone interested in having either a full time small business or a part time business venture, you have to ask yourself if you are prepared for failure. Now failure is not the end of the world. Edison failed hundreds of times to make a successful light bulb. While it took him many tries, many unsuccessful attempts, he eventually became known as the inventory of the light bulb. His success came not from genius but from perseverance.
Many times when you are starting a new venture, you will reach a point where you become frustrated. If you are doing it part time, it usually comes when your normal job takes a higher demand on your time and energy for a while. Your new venture slowly grinds to a halt as you have less and less time and energy to devote to growing it. If you are a full time business owner it may be changes in the economy, a vendor going out of business, a string of unhappy customers, or any number of things. These times are when you show your mettle. Seth Godin referred to this as winning on the uphill.
When Lance Armstrong won the Tour De France, he did it on his performance in the mountains and not on the flat areas. His training and tenacity allowed him to make gains where most of his competitors simply tried to stay even. As someone interested in being a small business owner, do you have the tenacity to stick through the tough times. To put in the hours even when you don’t want too. Many people on the internet will happily sell you a product or miracle solution that appears to take all of that out but the only way to succeed with a business requires effort.
Now many of those products includes systems and knowledge that can shorten your learning curve, but if you buy the fanciest system in the world and leave it laying on your table or in your bookshelf, it won’t help grow your business any at all.
If you already have a business, I would suggest that you buy Mark Joyner’s new book, Integration Marketing. Mark is currently adding over 60 bonus packages if you buy it from this website. Even if you don’t take advantage of his offer, I would buy the book. It will help you look at marketing your business in a different light. It isn’t a 1,000 page book. It is short and concise. Well worth the time to read through it. The key as with any system is implementing it to your business.
The next couple of posts will be focused on those who desire to start a business but don’t have one yet. It will work through how to determine what you are capable of doing and can be financially successful. You know what they call a business that consistently loses money? A hobby
or a non profit. I much prefer being a for profit entity.
Until our next post, enjoy your journey on the path to wealth.
