Do you believe in Luck? Today is Friday the 13th and many people believe that is is filled with bad luck. Movies have been made about it to feed upon that superstition. So ask yourself do you believe in luck? Not just bad luck but good luck as well. Because honestly you can’t have one without the other.
So when good things happen to you do you attribute it to luck? When some goes awry do you just shrug your shoulders and say “oh well bad luck hit me again”. I want to challenge you to change your mindset if this is the way you believe.
Seneca a 1st century philosopher said “Luck is what happens when preparation meets opportunity.” I think that is a pretty good summary of it. Are you preparing for that opportunity? We always hear that opportunity knocks. Very few people talk about actually having to open the door and invite it in.
Now this isn’t to say that we will always be given easy opportunities. Many people have things that happen to them that could easily fall into the bad category. Outside of their lives, people would nod in sympathy at the bad luck they had that prevented them from being successful. It’s human nature to want to outsource the reasons we don’t succeed. Can you honestly say that you have more “bad luck” in your life than he has? Or do you just have a firmer grasp on your excuses. I recently heard a great quote. Can’t remember who said it so if you know please post it in the comments below.
You can be in the results business or the excuses business but not in both.
