Do you complete the circuit in your business?

by Scott on July 8, 2009

This is my first post with photos in it so give me some feedback on the load time and how they look. I like having visuals but want to make sure the page loads quickly.

Many years ago my dad gave me an old Murray lawnmower. It has truly seen its better days but still works.

It still cuts the grass though it does need some work at times. You have to replace a belt, a tire, level it up, sharpen the blade, etc. Sounds like a lot of the things we have to do in our business huh? I am sure we all prefer to have that brand new toy to be used but does it really make sense to spend cash on it when what we have works? This also applies to personal finance as well. Sure a new lawnmower would look pretty but would it cut the yard any better? It might run faster or get a little better gas mileage but what would the payback be?

One thing you have to realize about this mower is that over the years my dad had jury rigged the battery to keep it working longer. Unfortunately when the battery finally gave up the ghost it was nearly impossible to replace it in a normal fashion.

To get it to run requires some outside help so to speak. For those of you who own a lawnmower, you are used to getting on the seat, turning the key and mowing away. Mine is a little more complicated. It needs a little boost from the outside.

I get to jump start my lawnmower every time I mow the yard. If you don’t connect the cables the right way, nothing happens. When you do connect them you need to be ready because it will fire things up quickly. Even after being disconnected the mower runs very well.

Now the question you need to ask yourself about your personal finance and your business… Do you have everything hooked up right? Do you have everything you need to fire things up. Notice it didn’t have to be perfect to get things done. It just has to be connected. It has to have a spark.

Are you the spark for your business? For your life? For your family finances? If you don’t have it connected the right way, you won’t get the results that you need.
