Happy Birthday Mom!!

by Scott on June 30, 2009

Today is my mom’s birthday.  I won’t bore you with how old she is.. mainly because she is on the internet, might find this site and kill me :)

I have always thought it was cool to have a mom who’s birthday is 3 days before we celebrate our countries birthday.  My birthday comes later this month so July has always been pretty hectic in our family.  Growing up Mom always ensured that I remembered her birthday.  Now all the women reading this may wonder how she got any man to remember her birthday every year.  Well the secret is….

If I forget her birthday, she forgot mine, plus Christmas.  The risk was simply too great.  Plus I knew when we bought fireworks that her birthday was coming up.

Today take some time to celebrate the wealth you have in your family.  If you have problems with some of them, spend some time working on improving your relationship.  I have a really cool method for improving my relationships with family and friends.  I simply ask myself this question “How is my life better by this person being in my life?”   You can only answer in the positive.  Spend some time thinking about the good they bring even if it is small :)

I realize some people are more difficult to deal with than others.  After I have thought about the good they bring in my life, I also ask this question “Why is it so easy for me to accept this person for who they are and enjoy the good things they bring in my life?”   You may think this is an odd question but the human mind is a wonderfully powerful device.  It will find an answer for it.  It will help you to get along with people in  your life even if they are more difficult than normal.

Having strong relationships are a vital part of building wealth in our lives.  Spending time minimizing the drain caused by tough relationships can help improve your attitude and outlook on life.  Now truly toxic relationships should be avoided at all costs.  They will drain your wealth and energy very quickly.

Work to develop relationships that strengthen you and uplift you.  Work to minimize the impact of those that you can’t completely avoid by focusing on the good parts of them.  Remove toxic relationships from your life.  You will be far happier and wealthier.

Let me know what you think in the comments below.  I look forward to your feedback.  If you haven’t already, subscribe to my RSS feed in the top right corner of the page.  It will make sure you get some of the special pages that aren’t available in my normal blog.

Thanks Scott, I needed that advice!

It is so easy to dwell on the negative. It bounces around in your head and has to consciously be removed or replaced. That is the way our brains are wired. This is a survival mechanism. Early in man's history, this was probably very helpful. Unfortunately in todays world we are bombarded with negative in every facet of our lives. By God's wonderful design though, we can choose to think differently.
